I just got back from my second ever colonoscopy. They found and removed 4 polyps the last time and 2 this time. At least I won't have to do that again for another 5 years. I have some diverticulitis developing but was told it wasn't problematic at this point. They said if I eat nuts or seeds I should drink a lot of water to make sure they all get flushed out of the system.
At least this time they waited until I was completely out before they started the probe. Last time there was some slight pain in my abdomen when they started before I was out all the way. I was having such a good snooze. I was a little annoyed when the nurse woke me up. Ah the joys of modern medicine.

I started to wake up during one of mine. About all I remember about it was hearing a detached voice (which I recognized as me) saying "Oww!"

After just getting over my first bout of diverticulitis [posted in another thread] I'm following up w/ another colonoscopy. Had one five yrs ago w/ no polyps so was good for another 5 yrs but the recent diverticulitis changes that.

I mail my poo off to a lab in WI where it is sniffed for cancer cells.
Not entirely clear how it works.

2013 and 2019, also 2 EGDs. I think I'm a lightweight when it comes to twilight anesthesia, best naps ever. The prep sucks.

If you've ever gotten on the Cologuard mailing list, this is pretty spot on.

For my first. I'm lying on the table and the doc asks "do you want to be sedated?". Heck yes, unconscious I says. "Give him 2" he tells the nurse. Darn right.

I was in the Twilight Zone for my first colonoscopy, conscious but hazy. I had asked to see, in real time, what the doctor was seeing, so they turned the screen for me. Interesting journey. Different aspect altogether for my endoscopy. I was zonked, but even so, I remember gagging on the scope.

I also discovered that I wasn't so original asking the doc if he used the same tube for the EGD and suggesting they do that first, then the colonoscopy. 😄

I'm guessing all the medical folks in the room probably have a bet if that line will be used. They may even have a standard that after hearing it X amount of times in one day they'll use the same tube and do the colonoscopy first.

Haven't had the pleasure yet. I think I'd want the Super Mario pipe sound effect when they go in, though.

I'm very disappointed by this thread. After reading the thread title, I clicked it open eagerly, hoping that the colonoscopy "fun" which had previously gone unnoticed during my own prep and procedures would be revealed herein...

Not entirely clear how it works. They screen for heme using a catalyzed reaction. Anything over the average is merely an indication of any blood source in the colon or intestines--one of which is a cancerous lesion. Click Here for an overview. Colonoscopies are a regular thing for me. As I'm getting the sleepy juice added to the IV I say, "wake me up when we get to Cleveland." And when I come out of my nap I say, "Are we in Cleveland?" Both always get laffs from the medical team.

I was in the Twilight Zone for my first colonoscopy, conscious but hazy. I had asked to see, in real time, what the doctor was seeing, so they turned the screen for me. Interesting journey... I was called for a sigmoidoscopy about 6 months after my radiotherapy, the ‘radiation proctitis’ from which had left me with the dreaded ‘brown wind’ for a while. So I was interested in seeing what the damage to my rectum actually looked like. And I’d got into the habit of making an audio recording of significant medical consultations on my smartphone. So for my sigmoidoscopy, I made a video recording of the screen! I was annoyed that youtube wouldn’t allow me to upload it (privately, for storage purposes ) due to the recording picking up the radio playing music in the background.

I may be due for another soon. Never felt anything while I was under but the good doctor has found a polyp or two the last couple times. Whatever they use to put you out is pretty amazing. I feel totally refreshed after.

Yay! Mine is in the rearview mirror. I survived the 5 day prep which includes a restricted diet for 5 days leading up to the procedure, liquid diet the day before and a split consumption of the gallon of go juice. So I got to make a bunch of trips to the bathroom Monday night and again Tuesday morning. They said I did an excellent job on the prep.
Now the really great news. No polyps, no issues they could see other than the diverticula that we already knew about that they described as "severe". But that's nothing new, so all good news from my perspective....plus it's over for another 10 years.
I also did not have the severe abdominal pain the night after the procedure like I did last time. I was vaguely aware at a few moments during the procedure as I seem to remember poking and prodding around what's supposed to be exit only, but no pain or discomfort.
I will not ever schedule an afternoon procedure though. I'd much rather get it over with in the morning.

I looked in Webster's Dictionary: "colonoscopy fun" is given as an example right there in the definition of "oxymoron".
