When I was in high school I had the hippest English teacher (not to mention very attractive) She brought the record "I Am a Rock" in and my assignment was to decipher what the lyrics meant, "I have my books, and my poetry to protect me, I am shielded in my armor...." That was a fun assignment.

There's a ton of S&G music that I really like, but very little of Paul Simon's solo stuff that grabs me. Garfunkel has a great voice (I mean, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, wow) but he seemed a little too fluffy on his own. The times they've been reunited I always sensed that Simon was a bit embarrassed and didn't really want to be there.

I had a teacher in 5th grade, early 1970's, she played and had us dissect their songs.
We discussed what we thought the meaning was.
I learned a lot from her, she turned me onto Herman Hesse and Heinlein.....

I saw them (just the two of them) once, January, 1967 at the University of Detroit, a week or two before this album was recorded in NYC. They probably did pretty much the same set, including Roly's songs.

I was tying flies this winter, shuffling through my digital music, and they kept surfacing. I’d say something like “Wow, I forgot how good this song is”, every time.
