I swear I do my best to proof read before posting but, inevitably, I'll read it a few minutes later and find that I omitted a word because my brain is thinking faster than I can type. FTR, I can type around 50-60 wpm. It's a bit annoying because I've always prided myself with my typing skills. I don't know why, but I took typing in school and really enjoyed it and so have always tried to keep my chops up, so to speak. I don't know, I guess it's just age catching up with me a bit. I'll be 59 in September. Oh, and another thing I catch myself doing on occasion is typing the wrong word, like "they're" when I mean "their", or "there, for example. And, yes, I know 50-60 wpm isn't going to impress the secretaries from days gone by, but I always thought it was pretty good for an amateur.

I do a lot of editing.
I do also have a few words I regularly type goofy. Most times when I type “from” it will hit the page as “form”.
It’s much worse for me when working from my phone. Between the tiny letter icons to the “auto-correct” …
I can end up with some really incoherent chit.
There, I had to edit this one after posting, then reading the first sentence.

And you captured my typo there in your quote. 😜
You are right though, there is auto type and also auto-correct.
Both of which cause problems at times.

Not a fan of the geezerdom. The first thing I noticed was that I began typing a few words twice now and then. Like, “This dog don’t don’t hunt”. It gets worse. My dog barks when something starts burning on the stove and I reward him every time with cheese. Cheese is now at the top of every grocery list. We adapt and buy a new motorcycle.

I try to be meticulous in my editing, not just here but with everything I write. But .. these days I can go over something again and again before hitting the Print button, and when the sheet comes out of the HP .... errors in spelling, missing words. My brain filling in the right material when I proofread, and then seeing the result on the hard copy. Also .. words I've know how to spell for 60 years: Spellcheck picks it up as a goof and I have to sit there pondering the right combination of letters.

So far so not bad...In retirement I earn most of my freelance income from writing stuff. Some of it is Powerpoint presentations and associated handouts, as part of delivering training for organisations. That's relatively easy, but the rest is usually quite long, detailed reports.
As I get older, I find I need to be very meticulous in the proof reading and yet still occasionally miss things. What is really helpful is if I walk away for a few days, then go back. The errors seem more obvious then. One of my geezer friends, who does similar work, says he's experienced writer's block recently and finds it hard to get started on a new document. So far I haven't had that. See what I mean? Had to go back in to add a missing comma.

I post stuff various places and go back and look at it later and see letters missing. People probably think I'm illiterate. I now see that you guys would understand. Thanks for the thread, Lesterstrat!

I edit more often than not, it seems. On more lengthy posts I'll often type them in a notepad first, then copy and paste. Most of my posts are on the phone and my thumbs are getting bigger. I also find myself having to do multiple edits because I missed other errors.

I remember when auto correct came out, it was a blasting. Very grapefruit for such technology.

So none of you geezers are using voice to text?

We have a friend that always uses voice text.
His messages come through completely incoherent.

Quote: FTR, I can type around 50-60 wpm. That's quite impressive in my book.
I am able to express mys thoughts quite satisfactorily in writing. Although with typing, unfortunately, I am just in the 'Hunt and Peck' category.
As such though I do review and edit my words carefully just in case my brain and my fingers are not cooperating.

So none of you geezers are using voice to text? Yep...all the time for texting. But it's prudent to proofread. I recently had 'messaging' translated as 'moo goo poop ring'.

I always attempt to sprinkle my posts here with numerous obscenities but I keep misspelling them all "c-h-i-c-k-e-n".
Then, when I go back with "edit" and try to correct, I make the same mistakes.
I think I'm starting to lose it...

I never learned how to type, my spelling is atrocious , and I don't speak clearly on voice to text apparently . I'm doomed

I type too since I took it in High School. I don’t do well on these touch screen keyboards such as Ipad and Iphone. Especially hate the auto correct on Iphone and I disabled it. I have a better chance with a misspelled word than when that thing just decides to totally change what I entered for some reason or another.

Actually, I was hoping this thread was about shredding pentatonics.

I can do that! Lol
Well, I suppose my “shredding” has probably slowed a bit since I rarely play guitar anymore. I like drumming better.
