I was a loyal Netflix DVD customer for years, sending and receiving DVD's through the mail. I don't recall exactly when I abandoned that subscriber format for streaming, but it's been several years at least. I didn't give it another thought until I learned that the Netflix through-the-mail program is ending on September 29th. I had no idea it was still breathing.
Wonder what they'll do with the billions of DVD's left in their mail bins? When Blockbuster was closing down, I took advantage of their unloading of physical media at my local outlet, to add to my DVD library. I rarely watch the 300 or so DVD's I own, but tested my system a couple of months ago, when a planned power outage took effect. I watched movies on my portable DVD players, just to see if they were still viable. I figure that when the Big One hits here in So Cal, I can sit among the smoking ruins of my home, eating MRE's and watching movies on one player while I recharge the other with a solar generator.

I was thinking they would just tell the last person to order the disk to keep it. As far as those that never get viewed, The Salvation Army. They'll take anything.

Gato, I saw that headline and was just as astonished as you are.

I am surprised it took this long. I understand that there are some who choose not to stream, but CD has become a dinosaur like 8 tracks and tube recordings.

We quit Netflix DVD program a couple of months ago. Not surprised at the announcement. As with Blockbuster all things must pass. DVD as fallen into the same category as CD which was killed by streaming.
