They never fail to fail at the most inopportune time. Actually, in this case, it's the printer, or computer. Hell, who know? Downloading and printing documents to scan and all is well. Go to scan, which I do all the time, and suddenly the SOB says "Scanner Communication Cannot Be Established". I've tried every trick I can think of. Cable checks, bypass cables and go wireless, re-boot everything, etc... even ran the print and scan doctor (HP) and it hangs up in the same spot and won't go any further.
I can't even figure out if it's a computer issue or a printer issue. If I knew, I'd just by a new one and move on. This computer (is probably 10-15 years old. Printer isn't much newer (HP Envy 4500)

Iphone saves the day. Say what you want about smart phones, but they are light years better than computers. I digress. Anyway, FYI for those of you that may not know this. There's an app that comes on Iphones called Notes. You can actually use it as a scanner and it will can your documents into a PDF file for email or whatever you wish to do with the file.

That is great information. I have used a separate program called CamScanner for that, and it comes with a $29.99 subscription fee if you want your documents not to be branded with their logo (and for my work purposes, they can’t be). I’m going to check this out and see if Notes can replace this app.

In reality this gizmo we call a “phone” is really just a computer with a phone app.
😜

I’m going to check this out and see if Notes can replace this app. - Lay the document you wish to scan on a desk, table, etc... - Open the Notes app on your IPhone (I have a 13) - Open a note, or create a new one - Tap the little camera icon at the bottom of the screen. It will pop up an options list of "Scan Text", "Take a photo or video", "Scan Documents", "Choose Photo or Video" - Choose the "Scan Documents". It will then open up the camera - Hover the camera over the document and it will automatically take the pic. You can flip the page and scan the next, and so forth until you're done. - Click save at the bottom You're done. You'll now have a note with all of the documents saved in it that you can forward as a text, email, etc... It will be sent as a PDF file.

I was going to say “get a Mac” but I see it isn’t necessary.

I was going to say “get a Mac” but I see it isn’t necessary. Yeah, my Apple IPhone 13 got done in 2 mins what I fought with all morning on my PC, and NEVER got done. I've never purchased a Mac computer even though I've always been of the opinion that they're LIGHT YEARS better than a PC because they've always been quite pricey. But, I might bite the bullet this next go around. I would also imagine my IPhone would get along much better with a Mac since they'd be cousins.

I like the level of integration between my iPhone and my Mac. Basically, what ever exists on one (files I choose, photos) exists or is accessible on the other.
Once I'm done with work I'm done with Windowz. My wife is done with work and is done with Windowz.
I used to laugh at the "get a Mac" folks and posts. Now I is one.
It's what us opulent people has.

Phones, particularly Apple's walled stupid garden, are evil.
No actual control over a damned thing.

I had a PC at home, but Macs at work for 10 years. They were outdated and started to go, and my boss decided to go back to PCs.
But, we had one Mac that was purchased for a new attorney, then said attorney was laid off following COVID, and then came back. It had about 6 months of use and I was not putting it in the dumpster with the rest.
So now I have a Mac at home lol.

I was rushing to get everything done for my Medicare enrollment prior to my trip to NYC. I met the deadline for Medicare parts A and B, as well as supplemental vision and dental. The hard part was some additional coverage with my former employer. I got the fillable form sent in with an e-signature. And I told the HR person that I wasn’t taking my laptop with me. At the airport she emails me that the carrier needed a hard signature and attaches the filled form without the signature. I save it to my files folder on my phone and use my finger to sign - iPhone to the rescue. Thankfully the carrier accepted that. Side rant: Who in today’s world will not accept an e-Signature?

ATF doesn't tale e-signatures on my yearly "Move stuff across state lines if I want to shoot with friends" forms.
Ironically they accept....electronic versions of the paperwork.
So I've just got a little scan of my signature now I photoshop into the doc before sending.

Shrug...what doesn't work is crap and what does is good. Never mind that everything breaks/fails at some point.
My wife's iPhone randomly doesn't charge overnight. Sometimes it just shuts down even though the battery is fine. I was trying to reach her for something important and she simply didn't respond. When she got home, I said "why didn't take your phone with you?". She says "I did", pulls it out and it's off. Next day she's sitting there using it and it just shuts off, for no reason. That went on for a month or two until she got a new phone.
I've gone 6 months without a reboot on my android phone. Like my phone, my PC only reboots when I get an update. Both are dead nuts reliable.
iPhones have their strengths and weaknesses...just like everything else. Same with PC's and Macs.

I been using MS Lens for years to scan docs into PDF on my iPhone. It's free and works fine.
