Cruise lines are obliged to have all passengers attend a life boat drill, where the crewmember giving the particulars usually avoids commenting on "unsinkable" ocean liners. I didn't know about something else required on a cruise ship: a morgue. The industry acknowledges that passenger deaths are "not uncommon," so it only makes sense to provide a refrigerated room for those who experience "the big Elizabeth" during the cruise. There were 2,852 folks aboard the Celebrity Equinox when the Caribbean -bound cruise ship left Fort Lauderdale, but the population dropped by one on the second day. Robert Jones, 79, died and his widow Marilyn, was given two options: disembark with the body in Puerto Rico, or have it stored in the ship's morgue until the return to Florida. She opted for the morgue, not knowing that the goldarn refrigeration unit wasn't working. Robert's body ended up in a beverage cooler with the beer and Mai Tai mixers. Long story short, Bob was bloated, green and unfit for an open casket funeral when the widow went to claim the body. She's suing Celebrity Cruise Lines for a million bucks. Celebrity declined to comment, citing the "sensitivity of the alleged facts and out of respect for the family." I'm guessing that pool filter maintenance is a higher priority on most cruise ships, than maintaining the morgue. apnews.com/article/cruise-ship-death-celebrity-florida-lawsuit-c940a669e70b685a3d86467888af5ca6

We sailed on the Equinox last December. I might have bloated a bit, but did not turn green.
