Somniphobia is the extreme fear of sleep. People with somniphobia may worry or obsess throughout the day about how they can avoid sleep. They may be afraid of what happens when they do fall asleep, such as sleep paralysis, having a nightmare or sleepwalking.
The Opposite: People with sleep anxiety may feel anxious because they struggle to get enough sleep.
One lies awake afraid to fall asleep, while the other lies awake afraid of not getting enough sleep. Having slept only an hour or two, neither is someone you want driving the car behind you.

The only time I was ever afraid to go to sleep was when I was on Chantix. That stuff gave me the most horribly vivid nightmares I've ever had in my life, nightmares I still remember in detail.

I’ve never been afraid to sleep. I gre up watching the Nightmare on Elm Street series, anything short of a supernatural serial killer who can actually kill you in real life would ever phase me.

My mother in law was notorious for one liners. Among her best was when she was letting us know that a family member had passed. When we asked how he died she said...
He went to sleep and woke up dead...
Years later we still are laughing at that one.
