I like Mason Marangella’s (Vertex Effects) videos. He takes deep dives into tone and one of his best vids was an interview with Paul Jackson Jr. and his days in the studio. Yesterday, wanting to find more about Vertex Effects, I start googling and in the list of hits up comes Vertex scandal. Okay, I’ll bite. Apparently he was accused of and admitted to rebranding a cheap offshore wah pedal and gooping the internal electronics and label. A lot of folks piled on saying how his custom built pedalboards are trash. Seems like Joe Bonamassa threw in his bit of shade on being burnt by a poorly made Vertex build. All of this was about ten years ago. Here’s the kicker, I also tuned into a Tom “Uncle Larry” Bukovak video yesterday where he says how his Vertex boost is always on his pedalboard. Then he goes on to say how so many “professional guitarists” over on the Gear Page slam Mason and how he’s known him for years, and respects the guy. Taking all things into account, I’m thinking about a Vertex SSS pedal in the future. 😉

Yes, the Vertex wah "scandal" was perhaps not the legal definition of fraud but certainly (at best) deeply unethical. He had artists endorsements on it (Mike Landau was stung by that one) and I won't follow his YouTube account as a result. But despite that he is still seems well regarded in the industry and many big name players are singing his praises.

I have a thread in here about my new “always on” pedal… a Vertex Steel String MkII.
So I didn’t get the memo either. But that hasn’t changed my mind about the pedal.
