Three work best for me these days, feel and tension. I'm between 9.5 and 10 guage these days. When I used 11's I used 4 springs. On one parts Strat I just can't get the guitar to return to pitch and decided the problem is related to improperly drilled holes for the bridge plate. So that one is decked with 5 springs.

3 and I use .008s and the trem is decked so I can’t pull up, only a little down-wiggle action.
It feels right to me.

depends one i have floating with 3 another its decked with 4 another another one is also floating with 4 i while another is decked with 3 some have 9.5 strings and others have 10.5 strings just depends on what i'm trying to play or sound i'm trying to achieve and how the guitar feels overall
or i have no idea and learned to adapt and try to play anything except maybe a big body guitar with a bigsby and a floyd I just don't need a headache)

It came with three, it works. I generally don't do much trem on a Strat anyway - vastly prefer the Jag or Jazzmaster for that.
But with 3 it stays in tune well enough, does warbly crap, and sounds like a Strat.
But I'm not hero tone chasing either.

Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three.
Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.
Five is right out.

Just don't be THIS guy. (legit came across my desk at the gun shop - I was the guy guy on any pawns/purchase of guitar stuff)

Best floating trem system for Strats I’ve come across is the VegaTrem. Two springs.

Best floating trem system for Strats I’ve come across is the VegaTrem. Two springs. Did that start on Kickstarter? I vaguely remember something like that there years ago.
Hard to tell from the pictures - a lot of the fancier, newer trems suffer from being too low mass (Wilkinson among them), but this looks better?
For the springs - quality of the spring is bigger than quantity. A lot of times when people are adding extra springs it is just because some are worn and don't have much more pull than rubber bands. Swapping out for new springs helps a lot, and you can get away with 3 just fine for most gauges. If you have a free spring in your hand, you can bend it sideways with your fingers. It should have some snap. Worn ones are a little more squishy. I mentioned this a while ago and someone (maybe it was Mark?) linked to a site that had fancier springs that were gauged for feel - interesting idea, but I haven't tried them.
(Also very bothered that the "artists" section for the VegaTrem has someone going by the name "Gizz Butt". See, this is why I listen to music from Japan.)

I like 4. 3 is too loose, 5 is too stiff.

I didn't see an option for zero. I've always blocked the trem.

I do like a hardtail Strat. I've only had one hardtail Strat, mid/late 70s. Definitely a different beast. It was actually my first or 2nd pickup swap, Dimarzios I think. It played like a pig (probably just needed a setup) but sounded really good. The Strat I just decked with 5 springs is fastened down to allow zero movement. I also muted the springs with some foam, just because. I've never actually blocked one before.

I've got 2 Strat builds that are hardtails - but they're both Abbey-normal. This one is H/H with a volume control for each pickup - no tone controls.
And this one is the Strat you can smuggle in to your ZZ Top tribute band gig. SD Red Devils and 24.75" scale mahogany neck.

One that floats with three in an arrow config and one decked with all five, but adjusted to easily dive.
