Just wondering if there have ever been discussions of grill cloth material and its effect on the sound. Not starting a debate, lol, but material Ampeg or Fender used/uses differs from Marshall, Mesa cabs. Also this probably matters more if you put a mic near the cone.

It’s an interesting topic for sure.
I know that Marshall went with a paper-based cloth in the early JCM800 years because it was tested and found to be the most acoustically transparent cloth they could find (this told to me by Ken Bran). That’s also the grille cloth that faded so easily, turning brown. Sometime around 1986 they switch to a different material be cause of the fading.

I've been in rehearsal studios where they 're-grilled' some marshall cabinets (basically because they were torn and kicked in) They used a cloth-like material and it did sound different.

I need a grill cloth that filters out the bad tone and only lets the good one through.
