I like my Uo-Chikyu nut files. Traditional edge cut files, nothing special but they do the job well and the price is right.

I bought the Stewmac set (010, 013, 016, 028, 035 and 046). I've since added a UO-CHIK YU .011 and a Hosco .036. They all get the job done. I don't understand the .035 gauge file in the Stewmac set, hence the Hosco .036. The .011 makes easier work than the .010. Once I've got the slots where I like them I hit them with some folded 5000 grit polishing paper. I tell myself it helps.

I’ve got a StewMac set with the grips that have served well. I do need to add a couple different widths, as Klinkhammer did.

Where on earth did you come up with Klinkhammer? You are a hoot! I wonder what you would come up with for me LOL 😂 Maybe you should issue nicknames for everyone that becomes a member 🤪

Actually, Larry himself claimed the moniker. It was on the old place. I asked him how he pronounced his last name. That was his answer.
I've not looked at those other files yet. For my Stewy files I have a grip for each one. They stay mounted to the files.

I have the StewMac nut files and also bought the Nomad set of diamond nut files. I haven't tried the Nomad set yet but they are about 2/3 the size of the StewMac type. I think I paid around $160 for the entire set. It has the bass set included. I hope they are a good set because my StewMac files are getting a little worn. On the StewMac files I also bought the double gauged sets as they are good starter files for nut slotting. I also bought the new Z files for crowning frets. They look like they will do a great job! I haven't had to much time to work on my guitars but have a lot of jobs in the works. I've been following your discussion on fret polishing also. Those neck guards look like they might save some extra time keeping the fretboard cleaner.

Yeah I bought mine last year and it looks like prices have gone up. But I think it is a worthwhile investment and should give you long term care. Let me know what you think of them, like I said, I haven't tried them yet but with all the prior experience with my other files, I think we made a good investment!

Was there a money conversion to pay with US dollars? I found the site but would need to join their website to access their files. That would be a good option to replace my StewMac regular slotting files. Did you have to join their website for access to their products? And if you did, did they give you an exchange rate for US PAYMENT? Thanks, Woody

Another thing I forgot to mention was: these files are at the old StewMac prices and I think of the same quality! This is cool because like I had mentioned, my old sets are wearing out and would like to replace them with these. Awesome!

I know about the file handles can be removed but haven't tried it yet. The diamond files appear about 2/3's as long as the regular nut slotting files. I also like the case they come in and they also give you the file gauge numbers to add on to the handles. Have you got yours yet? I'm almost done with the kitchen remodel and will be able to get to work on a few guitars that are waiting for refret and new nuts. The Tele is going to be a little bit trickier, as I have to refret it and afterwards, refinish the neck. Can't wait to get started!!! Let me know how you like the diamond files.

Well, when I get the files it looks like my first item to work on is my Yamaha ARE3. I pulled it out of the case after storage for almost a year and there is heavy binding on the G along with some pinging on the D and B when tuning up. I noticed they cut it straight without allowing for some angle on the back to be more inline with the angle of the string to the tuner. This will be my first time so will be going very slowly in hopes not to create more issues. The depth is perfect as is the string spacing. Also noticed the G and another string got wound around the post going from bottom first to top. Have to correct that first then see what needs to be done (i.e. possible sloping downward in back also.

I got the 16 diamond edge nut files in a nice case today. I will try and find time in next few days to work on the nut, oil the fretboard and install new strings. Never done work on the nut before so this should be a real experience. Any tips or suggestions are most welcome here.

I think the number one suggestion (or warning) have plenty of patience. Take it slow and careful.
I have found it very easy to cut too deep. 😒
I’ve had to resort to CA and nut powder a time or two.
It’s not a very forgiving process.
Or so it has seemed to me.
