I’m probably going to sell my 68 PR. I’m getting older and I’m not dying yet but if I do die before her (her, being my wife) she won’t have to deal with it.
So, if I do sell it I’d like to get one of the reissues. But, which one? I listen to them on YouTube and there doesn’t seem to be a big difference between the 65 and 68 custom.
The one I have now actually needs a tuneup. So, after getting that done, these are going for over 2k. I’ll probably want to keep it. I still have some thinking to do.

I'm failing to see the logic of repairing, offing and buying a reissue. That would still leave your wife with an amp to deal with, reissue or not. I vote get the 68 tuned up and see how you like it.
I've not a/b'd the two reissues but have read some so-so reviews on the 68 reissues. Oddly, the two 65 PRRI's I've spent any time with at a shop were vastly different. One was flabby and less than stellar, the other had all the Princeton Reverb goods I expected. I've not tried the 68 Custom.
Again, I'd start with a tune up on your existing amp and see where that leads you. Good luck!

I vote for the tune up and keep. That amp isn’t going to lose value.

Yeah, that’s a pretty half-baked idea!
I was thinking, sell the vintage, buy the reissue, and give the wife the rest of the money for work on the house. Kind of a long story.
When I suggested this idea to my wife last night, she said, no just get the amp fixed. I do love this amp. I also didn’t realize how much they are worth now. I bought it 16 years ago for $900. 68 Princeton reverb, silver-face.

I had a 68 Custom and thought it was warmer , but broke up earlier than the 65 ri. That being said, I’d keep the one you have and bing it up to snuff.

I talked with the amp guy today. From what I told him he doesn’t think it will take much to tune it up. Of course he has to go through it first. I’m taking it in next week.
I’m planning on keeping it…thanks you guys.

I took the PR in today. Hopefully it won’t take too long.
This is the shop I bought my last two guitars from.
Dangerous for me going in there. Like a high priced candy store. G&L, Eastman, Martin, Fender!

I think my '71 PR will be the last one to go.

I think my '71 PR will be the last one to go. Now that I’m getting mine tuned up, I can certainly understand.

Good move. For years I’ve owned a ‘66 BFPR, which sounds fabulous with a vintage Jensen C10NS installed, but the ‘68 SFPR I sold ten years ago beckons me still. I was downsizing and had to choose. That little amp sounded surprisingly sweet with its stock Oxford speaker.

I called him right before he picked it up with several other amps. I’m expecting a call next week to let me know price and what’s wrong with it. I will report when I get it back. I’m ready!

I was in touch with the amp repair guy. He said he’s working on mine today. From an assessment the other day it seems like it’s mostly maintenance. He’ll text me when he’s got it back at the guitar shop where I can pick it up.

I’m picking up my amp tomorrow. The amp guy said it was basically a maintenance issue. The tremolo wasn’t working, he fixed that. The power tubes were at “the end of their journey”. So it got a new set of those. Some resistors, and a cap. Total bill, parts and labor, $220.00. I was very pleased with that!
I’ll report back to let you know how it sounds.

You're probably set for a lifetime on the maintenance now!

Got my amp back today. It’s about two hours round trip. A fun place to visit. Right when I walked in the door my wife was just laying down for a nap. I said wait! I just want to plug in for a minute.
I played my G&L Asat Fullerton Deluxe. The amp sounds sweet and quiet! That’s it until later…of course she’s sawing logs now.
Real nice to have it back!

They had a couple of vintage 330s but no PRS.
