Short Scales have little problem hanging with them. I don’t have an issue with sound of short scales. I guess I just couldn’t get used to the neck size on the one I had. It sounded great though. I like the last song best

Reverend Dub King.
"The Dub King produces the thick, deep tone you’d expect from a short scale neck and semi-hollow body. But unlike most basses of this type, it has excellent clarity and sustain thanks to the five-piece neck and lock down bridge."

I like the last song best Spencer Davis Group (featuring pre-Traffic, pre-Blind Faith Steve Winwood)-1967.

I thump just as hard with my VI (30") as the Jazz or the P.
I just play it better as it was made for my hands - I'm a 6'8" monster and regular guitar has always been like playing a mandolin - just a little too small.
I like it for that, but when I want to really reach out, the VI lets me do just that.
And with the synth pickup and the GR-55, it does things no mortal instrument could conceive of.

Actually my short scale conversion happened began almost twenty five years ago after buying a new reissue Dano Longhorn. At first I wasn’t at all keen about the shorter scale , but that slowly changed , and then one day I realized that I preferred them. I’ve got around a dozen of ‘em now.
They are surprisingly different despite sharing the same scale length.

Yeah, they're cool. They have more character, and sometimes that's a good thing, but not always. To my ears, they tend to say "blam" instead of "plum" or "dum". And, certainly not going to get a "da-duh-da-duh" Jaco tone. The "blam" is really good for some styles. A lot of groups that have been using retro style synths have gravitated towards shorter scale basses, and likely because it is sitting in the mix a lot better. That added character helps it stand out without getting into volume wars.

I was pointed towards a squire Bronco by the manager of a Guitar Center in Gainesville FL. at $150.00. It’s one of my favorites. I even installed a Guild Bisonic pickup into the aBronco.

My shortest is a homemade 20” scale cigarbox fretless bass. I can’t recall but it’s likely I’ve brought it before.
