This is keeping me up nights. Daddy Mack Blues Band: I Don't Understand You Baby. In G. I want to use the phrasing/single note picking on the IV chord-Cm. WHAT IS the descending pattern? I want to use it on The Thrill Is Gone. Pretty much the same song, BUT whatever is going on with the rhythm guitar on the IV is making me climb the walls. Thanks for the hep!!

The descending notes on the Cm - iv chord are C - B - Bb. It's a Cm - CmM7 - Cm7. You could take it one step further and go Cm - CmM7 - Cm7 - Cm6 by making the descending notes C - B - Bb - A.
That's called a Line Cliché. It's when one of the notes of a chord descend chromatically down from the root. They can move all the way from the 7th down to the 5th. "The chords during the verse on "Something" by The Beatles is a good example of a Line Cliché.
