Hot off the presses. Finally Boss updates the GR-55. Sounds like it’ll be available in August. No need for that uber fragile 13-pin cable, hex pickups will send signals via twisted pair TRS cable. Not cheap: $750 for just the synth, $250 for the GK-5 pickup, $70! for the cable, $200 for the GKC-AD converter if you have a 13-pin guitar (Godin). I think I’ll wait awhile before pulling the trigger on it. www.boss.info/us/products/gm-800/

The Roland synth cables are NEVER cheap, I've bought enough 13 pins and cried every time.
The "deal" is buying the package with the unit, pickup, and cable - as mucha s there ever is one.
I got my 55 right when Fukishima hit and Roland's production was iffy for a few months and paid a premium - couldn't find a package so had to get everything separate.
I really am looking forward to this, if nothing else because the GT-10 models and effects are VERY dated at this point.
I love the synth sounds and Vguitar stuff, but...the effects and amp models suck as does their lack of configurability by modern standards.

About time ! Geez Remarkably small compared to the G-55, that might be handy. I'll put it on my list for a year from now but...I'm not going to be that happy unless this thing is rock solid and nearly instantaneous. And I'd like it to sound as close to analog as possible...maybe apply some of that digital guitar filtering that produces a better tube guitar tone. Something like that should work to "analogize" digital sounds...maybe. Well, at least they came out with something, even if it's not that revolutionary soundwise. So far it seems like a marginally improved GR-55 in a smaller package with a more hardy type of cable system. Big deal. I hope it proves me wrong !

The GT-100 and GT-1000's better algos do the tube thing well. the GT10's stuff, frankly, is garbage comparatively.
The upgrade in the engine and allowing for external 13 pin (and new connections) is actually the first step in getting the thing going.
The GR-55 is still a hefty piece of kit, but the GT-10 amps and effects and no switchable order frankly..sucks.

Hopefully there’ll be a “Sweet” bundle deal. As of now everything is a la carte. At least the GM-800 comes with the power supply. 🙄 Roland hasn’t explained much about this, but it seems the GM-800 ZEN-Core engine is compatible with the Roland ZENOLOGY DAW synth software and expansion plugins. That’ll be cool. Yesterday I downloaded the free Native Instruments Kontact Kontrol plugin suite and wasn’t having much joy using my GR-55 as a midi controller.

Yea, if it runs plugins from that, it'll be stupid good.

I don't really want to move away from the separate pickup/13 pin/whatever it is now option - the individual string tracking/tuning/etc is too essential to be overlooked.
I had no interest in any of the rest honestly.
They won't do what the 55 did.
