Will a J Bass neck work on a P Bass body?
I’m pretty bass-clueless, but I’m building myself a P Bass.

Are you liking the narrower neck from the J Bass? Otherwise, yes, the neck joint area is the same and I believe the depth is the same. Some J bass necks have the extended fretboard (22 frets) and should clear the pickguard. It's easy enough to trim for any overhang, if any, from the fretboard.

Thanks!
I’m sorting out what I like now. I wasn’t aware that J necks were narrower.

I've done several P bass builds using a Jazz neck. The narrower nut width on the J neck is a bit more comfortable.

Yes, they have identical neck pockets. It's the neck taper and nut width that sets the two necks apart.
