So I got to thinking about how I could improve the sound of my bass, a MiJ Jaguar bass with jazz bass pickups, and started wondering about getting some better pickups.
I have no idea about how to express the sound I want except "better".
So if you have any suggestions about what the best sounding jazz bass pickups are, please let me know so I can start investigating if they have the sound I am after.
Thanks

Check out the Aguilar pickups. I have them in several basses and am pleased with the sound.

Frankly, I could hear a big difference. Having said that have a set of AG 4J HC Noiseless and like them.

I think I know the reason but I can't spell it.

Could "better" in this case mean more output? Perhaps a frequency range is not represented in a mix the way it should be even after tweaking amp EQ and trying different strings? I am a jazz bass fan and would like to chime in, but I'd like to provide suggestions that make sense rather than just throwing some stuff on a wall and see what may or may not stick.

Thanks for the replies.
Matryx81 any suggestions you may make are welcome.
The question is simply to get suggestions from people who know more about the sound of the pickups than I do.( which is not much)

In this case I would suggest: Fender AV '74 pickups Nordstrand '70s pickups Fender Custom Shop '60s pickups If you can find them, maybe the AV '64s would be worth looking at. I think it would be fun to put those in a bass with '70s spacing.

Ive got a set of Fender Gen 4 noiseless in my Mexican Jazz bass. I like them alot. I had to do a bit of carving to get the bridge pickup to fit. My bass is pretty old though Early 2000s. Black bass , easy to touch up.

I like DiMarzio DP-123. They have individually-adjustable (with a hex wrench) pole pieces which allows you to balance/fine-tune response string-to-string, are available in cream or black, are reasonably-priced and are available in two sizes (end-to-end). Fender has used two different sized Jazz bass pups at one time or another, so if you buy these, be sure to measure your cavities to insure getting the right size.

I listened to several demo videos with these pickups and they are nice sounding!
