Continuing with these updates just because, this year’s school musical is Newsies, which my daughter has been obsessed with and wanting to be in since she was 10. She auditioned yesterday for the female lead.
Callback list came back and she is one of three called back. It’s her, her best friend in the theater program, and a senior. Common sense dictates that the teacher will give the part to the senior, who has been in the program 4 years and has not had a lead. But, that said, the teacher may not be as fond of her as you’d expect, and my daughter did get a better part last year as a freshman than she did as a junior.
I’m expecting the senior will take it at the end of the day. But little Fitz is running through the harmonies as we speak and she sounds like she has it down.
She will be devastated if she doesn’t get it. But it’s all part of the deal, I guess.

Hope she gets the part.
My grand daughter is in dance and due to the times she gets out of school cannot get to tap on time. So this year is doing ballet and jazz. The instructor (owner of the studio) said it is OK she can miss one year and not fall behind.
It is wonderful watching our kids excel. Best to your daughter.

According to her, it went very well and the other two prospective actresses did not know the material as well as she did and/or failed to belt the belting parts of the song. The would be male lead seems to have a lot of pull with the teacher, and supposedly my daughter is his choice for the part, if that means anything.
The bad news is, they don’t start the show until January, so we may not find out who gets what part until much later.

Well, little Fitz scored one of only 9 parts in the fall play (Noises Off, never heard of it), but did not land the lead in the Spring musical as she had hoped. The senior we thought would get it, got it.
The blow was somewhat cushioned by her landing the lead role in her Saturday class, which will be doing Legally Blonde in January. Big singing part, a lot of stage time, she is very excited and we expect she’ll kill it.

Been a while since I posted about my daughter’s theater exploits. Just played Regina George in a local production of Mean Girls The Musical, was very fun. Also grabbed the female lead in the school’s Fall play (went very well) and in the Spring musical (small part, but best available).
She also got the opportunity to sing with her schools’s chorus on stage at Radio City Music Hall, before the Christmas show.
And today, we found out that out of about 250 students, she was selected to receive an award from the charitable organization that supports Catholic school theater here and also does an annual awards show. Basically for her dedication to theater both in school and out. It’s based on participating in theater, participating in charity events and fundraising, teaching theater to kids, and stuff like that.
Very proud today.

I'm late to this but she has a great thing going on, tons of life lessons as well as great material for college applications and beyond. Isn't it interesting how they find something that you didn't necessarily cultivate but you allowed the door to be open and she's walked through it.

When she was a baby, I played guitar nonstop while she did her thing, by age 3 she was singing, and now here we are. Not quite sure how she developed into a theater person, my wife and I have always been theater fans but certainly not participants.
Favorite musical acts: Billy Joel, The Beatles, Taylor Swift. I take credit for 2 out of 3.
Very proud of her, hence this thread lol.

No judgment here if you took credit for all 3.

Which 2? The 20th century acts (Beatles and Billy Joel)? or guitar playing acts (Beatles and Taylor Swift)? Okay, I did see Billy Joel opening his show playing guitar at Madison Square Garden in 2019.

Probably because you guys took her to the theater often and she developed a liking for it.
