Thanks for helping out there. 👍
I was hesitating to put it up here initially but found it worth mentioning nonetheless.

It's well done, just very dark, is all.
The desolation of the city is stark. Glad I don't live there.

That's what I thought.
Been watching a real life kurdish militia ops documentary before and the movie is almost there, may be too close for some.
Not recommended for more sensitive members/kids and I should have added a PAL.

A friend mentioned “Mosul” , with the warning it was “violent and dark/heavy”, so it’s not for my wife.
Good one on Netflix is “The Eddy”, about an American musician trying to run a jazz club in Paris. Well made and written, good acting, lots of music, back stories that are being slowly filled in. We’re on episode 3 out of 8. Mix of English and French, plus some Arabic and Polish thrown in for good measure.

Watching “The Wilds” on Amazon Prime. Group of young girls on the way to a retreat in Hawaii and their plane crashes on a deserted island. Or, DID IT?

"The Triangle of Death" on Amazon Prime. This documentary footage provides often unpleasant insight it the dangers and challenges faced by a USMC reserve unit in Iraq, circa 2004-2005. The footage is actual rather than re-enactment and the narration consists of interview commentary by the soldiers, themselves.
WARNING: Like "Mosul" (mentioned above) this is not "family-friendly", light entertainment.

The doc I was referring to was filmed by a cameraman/soldier in full battlegear with the kurds, women and all fighting the IS in Syria. From house to house with poor logistics and little support from outside. Chasing the lot out of town, house by house in close combat. Not being posted here for the better imho.

Another in the category Don't Bother Watching would be ˋMa Rainey's Black Bottom'. Stale. But open for discussion.
While watching ˋThree Billboards...' again. Just as good as the first time. All on Netflix

Giri / Haji. Solid brit-jap detective series. No Yakuza and no Black Rain either but else not that bad at all. Great soundtrack. Netflix. Disclaimer: Explicit content. Very british..

Even though I found the final episode to be a letdown, I think "Giri/Haji" was well worth the ride up to that point and don't regret watching it. Did you watch "White Dragon" on Amazon, MoJoe? We really liked it:
I found a You Tube trailer, but didn't think that it did it justice.

“Your Honor” with Bryan Cranston is a good series so far. I believe it’s on Showtime in the US.

Getting somewhat trippy later. Still no regrets either. Going through the DVDs lately. Pollack's Yakuza has been setting the stakes high for the genre. Also enjoying this one everytime. Even bought the soundtrack CD for the car stereo later. Benefit of yt availability:

Recently added to Netflix -- I saw it in theaters when a new release and again earlier this week on Netflix -- absolutely the darkest comedy ever -- highly recommended. The Death of Stalin. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Death_of_Stalin

The Death of Stalin. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Death_of_StalinHi Jimmy, We watched this over the holidays. I thought it was hilarious, and probably quite close to the truth. The casting was superb, particularly Steve Buscemi as Kruschov, Jeffrey Tambor as Malenkov and Michael Palin as Molotov.

Might have been mentioned already, but "Fauda" is good. I recently started re-watching "The Wire" on Hulu; originally from HBO.

Being a longtime fan of Kurosawa and other samurai films (as well as a Robert Mitchum fan) I really enjoyed it. Something about Mitchum's sleepy, deadpan persona really meshes well with bushido stoicsim.

Great. The Giri/Haji east-meets-west theme was carrying me there in the first place. B-movie links in b/w here had me go through my own collection in technicolor then. 🙂
Next. That one was hard to come by for a while. Got me an old VHS copy only. Now here's to youtubage. Marc Bolan Born To Boogie

Netflix's range of series slowly drying out for me, another documentary that may have been mentioned here before. Narrative's a little plain imho but great filming.

Imagine how it would be to live in a city where most people have a standard of living/quality of life resembling something akin to that of "the homeless" here in the USA. Then imagine pet ownership under such conditions. That's pretty much what the film "Pariah Dog" documents: www.imdb.com/title/tt8879396/It's depressing to see how these folks live, yet it offers a basis upon which to re-calibrate complaints we may have about ways in which our own circumstances may fall short of what we might wish them to be. Kind of a "there but by the grace of God" moment, if you will. I guess how you react to this movie depends on whether you're a "glass half full" or a "glass half empty" kind of person.
Maybe a good wake-up call for a teen-aged offspring who repeatedly whines that "it's not fair"!
Had a bubbly female friend years ago who grew up "well-to-do" in the SF Bay Area back during the 1970s. She took a trip to India looking for "spiritual enlightenment" and returned in a state of near-clinical depression. We're talking' culture shock, my friends.
On Amazon.
