I have 10 friends who've had the COVID. One was 50 yrs old, the others all in their 60's.
All were in top physical shape with no health issues. The tally:
* Eight made it to the respirator. Four of those friends died. The other four have had ongoing, difficult recoveries.
* The two who were spared the respirator had milder cases that mainly involved several weeks/months of total lack of energy.
It's REAL, folks!
One of my friends who didn't make it was a Federal Judge working in the Oklahoma City building across the street from where McVay set the bomb off. The blast blew her completely across the floor of the building and almost through the windows on the other side. Removing shards of glass from her eyes and fixing all the broken bones took the better part of three years.
The COVID killed her in just 5 days after she got it. In another case, Dawn Wells was fine on Christmas day and now she's gone.
STAY SAFE gang.

No, but I do know more who have had it than a few months ago. The entire spectrum of symptoms , no deaths so far.

One that I can think of, but I didn't know him that well. My wife taught school with him.
If I may post this, the state of Louisiana is in shock of a congressman-elect who died of it at age 41. That's all I'll say about that.

Several of my friends have said they tested positive for the virus and were ill for a few days but now seem A-OK. One of my best friends and his wife both have suffered with this for the last week and he says it’s a real a$$ kicker. So far, none of my friends have died from it, but there are local people I’ve known who have.

That's all I'll say about that. Mentioning a politician isn’t “discussing politics”, so it’s fine. My boss’s mother in law died from it. And this week, an elderly man who I was appointed to serve as guardian of the property for died of it, he’s been in a nursing home full time for over a year. That’s bad news, and the nursing home is now locked down again with no visits.

Yes, a couple of officers here at work and one many may be familiar with, Herman Cain.
Mr. Cain was a regular visitor at the hotel and I was fortunate to meet him and be able to interact with him many times.

Not yet. One degree of separation from a bunch, but no one that I've personally known. There are a couple cases I'm watching closely.

one of my parent's church friends recently passed away from COVID, he was around 70 but very healthy.
Wife and I both had it last month (she got it at work and gave it to me). She didn't feel well for about a week with body aches, etc. I felt fine the whole time and had no symptoms other than mild fatigue. Now vaccinated and post-covid so ready to party! lol.

Not personally, but one of my son-in-law's co-workers (fire department) caught it, stayed out of work, came back to work, caught it again and died. He was only in his 30s. Don't know if comorbidities were involved or not. The SIL is tested at least weekly, if not more often, because of the high exposure risk of the job.
Somebody I do know personally got very sick with it but is now out of the hospital and seems to be on the mend, though he isn't 100% "back". He's in his late 70s.
Fortunately for us, both the infection and death rates in our small town have been low relative to larger, metropolitan areas. Spent about a week each down in San Diego and L.A. since this whole mess started. We didn't get infected, but were extremely careful, limiting our exposure to a small group (4 other people), all of whom had tested negative just before we arrived. We also tested negative just before being allowed into their "bubble". Over the course of the 2 weeks, we dined out once (spaced, outdoor seating) and got take-out once.
Not trying to suggest that what we did was fail-safe: just an anecdotal accounting of what happened to work out for us. We had important (to us) reasons for the travel, weighed the risks and decided that it was worth doing.
Being in our early 70s, we fall into the "at risk for serious complications" demographic.

Like Funky, one degree of separation. I know many more who have had it. The symptoms/severity are all over the map.
Son/D-I-L and 14 m/o had it in August. The worst case was son. He’s 30 and quite fit. It really kicked his arse.

Being in our early 70s, we fall into the "at risk for serious complications" demographic. And I am constantly aware of that fact, as it applies to my wife and myself. Our older son, his wife, and son have it. Our son has been very ill. Our daughter-in-law rarely calls, but she called my wife's phone yesterday. I nearly freaked out. He is much better today. We haven't seen them since March of this year. Their daughter, our granddaughter, plays softball, and we don't know to what level the family has been exposed.

Offhand, one granddaughter, 9, was sick for a few days. 3 close friends, 2 of which I have breakfast with on Saturdays, all in their 70’s had a very hard time of it. 2 were hospitalized. All recovered. I think the death rate has been reduced by therapies.

My Rocky Mountain hideaway is a good place to be right now. Twenty deaths total, and 15 of those were early on in a nursing home in the next town south.
Back in Nebraska, different story. I know maybe 20 people who have had it, one now deceased.

2 that I can think of. My BIL's FIL who was in his 90's and afflicted with dementia at a nursing home for many years. A close friend's sister died in the hospital from covid. She was also battling cancer, doing chemo and had a ruptured bowel that required emergency surgery.

I can only think of one who has died, but that was a sister of a family friend.
One guy I went all through school with that is about 6 weeks younger than I am had a nasty reaction to getting it. I believe he was close to a ventilator (he is 39 next week).
My wife had it and I suspect I did (by the time symptoms showed up, I was already quarantined. I had one day where I did not feel real well and a little bit of the dry, unproductive cough). Given the glimpse I think I received, I do not doubt it is real and it can not be fun.

One friend. As well, my mother in law tested positive and is not responding well. She is hospitalized and the report today is she is not eating or drinking and is barely responsive. She was very healthy prior to getting covid. - And she has now passed.

I have a second cousin who died from it. A friend of one of my other cousins died from it. That's as close as I can get.
My wife had it and we were just released from quarantine on Tuesday. I never got it according to the tests but I've had a sinus infection and a small bought with bronchitis for the last couple weeks. I'm about over it now. Still an occasional cough.

No one that died, but a guy at work had it. Said it was the sickest he had ever been. But there is Dawn Wells and John Prine.

my best friend's mother and father were infected with covid... they spent over a month in the hospital on oxygen. His father passed, he had "underlying" issues and was living well enough but covid further taxed his immune system and overwhelmed him. his mother had no real problems, survived but now has afib... she's under care for that.
in my ham radio club, one of the guys lost his father to covid and mother-in-law the next month.
there have been 2 in my neighborhood that passed, but i don't know their situation.

One of my aunts in her 80's in a nursing home got Covid and died from kidney problems, related to Covid...? The only person in our large family of aunts, uncles, cousins, etc that died from it. So far, anyway.
My 89 year old mother with COPD had it last summer and is fortunately still with us.

Two people I know, one well and one barely, were listed as COVID deaths. The first had Alzheimer's and the second had cancer.
A few others I know have had it; with experiences ranging from "the worst flu ever" to mildly ill for a couple of days.

Admittedly I am a bit of a recluse and have a small circle of friends and only distant relatives that I follow on Facebook. At this time I can say I don't even know anyone who has had it. Several acquaintances who had exposure and were tested but were negative. I believe it is real but not sure we are getting the real story.

Yes. All was quiet for the first several months, then I learned of people I know who've gotten the virus. Within the past couple of weeks I have had two family members pass - my wife's cousin's husband (50-ish years old), and my elderly uncle. We're all in the same county.

A neighbor passed from it a couple of months ago. He was diabetic but otherwise in good health. I've heard of a few but that's about it.
My wife and I are headed to Texas in a few days to start narrowing down areas to look for a winter home for next year. I'm a bit nervous but I don't think it's going to get any better for several months and, logistics wise, we can't afford to wait. I told my wife this morning that she needed to get serious about sanitizing and being very aware of our surroundings. I've been covering most of the shopping and other errands for quite a awhile now and she's a bit out of practice. Neither of us fear the virus but I told her that her dream to live in Texas for the winter seasons isn't worth dying for. No offense to you Lonestar Staters.
