You ever think about your first amp? What if I still had it. Some of you still have your first one but, in my case, it would have been a hard thing to keep around as my first amp was a birthday present back in the mid '60's. A lot of water gone under that bridge since then...so to speak. My first one was stolen out of my parents garage around the mid '70's so, I kept it for as long as I could. Before I get along to much more here, it was a Sears Silvertone Twin Twelve and I played a knock off, Japanese 335 through it in a garage band in the '60's. I'm thinking it was a kind of iconic amp back in the day especially, when you think of garage bands. They were a popular amp back then if you couldn't afford some kind of Fender amp. It was like if you didn't have a Fender amp, you had a twin twelve. I remember my oldest friend who is still a brother to me had a 1485. That was a huge amp with 6 10" Jensen's. I remember his being recovered in black, 'tuck and roll', heh! I bring this up because the software program that came with my Two Notes Captor X has virtual amps and cabs you can use for plugins for recording and I ran across a cab they call 'piggyback' which turned out to be the twin twelve cab. I didn't have it as a preset so, I purchased it from the Two Notes store. Cheap, @ 10 bucks. Also, since you can still acquire one of these amps, I ran across one that claims to be in 'mint condition'. I'm thinking about it......

My 1st amp was a crap import SS with a 6x9” speaker. Total junk. My 1st real amp was still SS but a Vox Berkeley II with tremolo, reverb in the iconic sloped side head with chrome trolley and 2-10” Vox Bulldog speakers. What it lacked in tone it made up in cool factor. Played a Domino 335 clone through it. My 1st decent guitar too.

The first amp that I can remember was a Pignose. I think I had cheapo before it but I don't recall what it was.

I bought my first amp from a younger neighborhood kid, it was a Crate. One of the first they made. If you've never seen one, they were built in an actual crate. It was solid state, oscillated when you held a note, and was pretty much crappy in every sense you can imagine.
But I loved it! It was all I knew and I traded it in on a non master Twin Reverb. Talk about going from one extreme to the other! I did some reading about overdriving an amp so I used to dime the Twin in my apartment. Did I have cool neighbors or what? 😎

My parents bought me a used blue tolex Supro Super in 1966. I had until I sold it for a song in a yard sale in the early 90s.

My first one was a little Silvertone with an 8" speaker. I have no idea what the model was. All I know is it sounded awful.

Peavey 'Backstage' in the early eighties. I think I might have traded towards a Music Man 110-RD-50.

This is probably going to sound ridiculous, but the first amp I remember buying was a Laney 100 watt valve head. I paid £80 for it in about 1978, and paired it with a Laney 4 X 12 I borrowed from a band mate. It was my only amp until the mid '80's when I left it overnight at the place where we practiced, and it "disappeared ". :-(
I'm guessing it would have been worth £2k - £3k now. :-(

Probably 1964, Champ-like, made by Alamo, branded for the local music store where I got it... "Sparks" (No it didn't)

My first amp, circa 1965, was from Lafayette Radio Electronics. It was 20 watts with a 12” speaker, tremolo but no reverb. It wasn’t a bad little amp, and served me well during my high school “garage band” days.

Also around 1965, I too had a Lafayette amp. It was a tube amp with 12" speaker. Nice but a little dark sounding IIRC. I should have kept it. I sold it and built a Heathkit 2X12 stack. Then moved on to a Super Reverb.

My first amp was some kind of Valco/Airline/Supro/Oahu variant. 12 inch speaker, probably around 10 watts and had tube tremolo but no reverb. It sounded glorious and I wish I still had it.

Well, after all these years and thinking about it a lot, I purchase a 1484 off of Reverb, shown in the pic. The condition of the amp was said to be mint. To me, it looks to be in really good condition as compared to the other offerings on this site. I guess I'll find out soon enough. I've always pined to get another one of these some day because it was my first amp and was stolen. According to the seller, this amp was thoroughly gone over by the shop and he says it works perfectly. Again, I'll find out soon enough. It is missing the foot switch but, I'm going to try the one for my Twin Reverb. Maybe that'll work. Anyway, I think I got it at a reasonable price which is not exactly what it says in the pic.

My older brother played bass in a band and I spent a lot of time borrowing various amps of theirs, including my brothers Traynor yba1. The first amp I can recall buying was an Ampeg V4 head and cab. It would be interesting playing one now but I absolutely hated that amp. Shortly afterward I traded it for a silver face Twin which I played for many years. I'd crank volume/treble/mid to 10 and run an Altair power attenuator. Eventually added 2 EV SROs. I think that amp weighed more than I did.

I still have my first amp. It’s a Garnet Reverb Mach 5 I purchased as a young lad around 1970. 2 - 6V6’s with a nice sounding trem and it crunches up nicely when pushed. It never gets used but she’s a keeper.

I think it was called an Ace Tone. I've googled it and haven't seen anything that looks close from what I remember.
Actually a decent sounding amp.
I'll never forget a guy asking to play my Teisco Del Ray with that amp and he played Third Stone From The Sun! It was way cool!!

A few years ago a purchased the model amp that was my second amp- a Marshall 5275. I do know who has my original, but he isn’t letting it go.
It was exactly as I remembered.

My first good amp was a Peavey 2x12 tube amp from the 70's. I don't recall the model but it may have been a Deuce. A friend lost his dad, who was a musician. He asked me to come over and took me into a spare bedroom that was chocked full of gear. He told me to pick out something. That was a great-sounding amp and LOUD.

One of these, and a Hamer Standard to plug into it (and a Boss HM-2 and a tuner) given to me. I was asked to give the amp back at one point, and ended up trading him a SF Champ for it as I radically preferred the Sidekick 35 Reverb. Surprisingly good, recorded VERY well. If I ever encounter one in the wild at a reasonable price, it'll follow me home.

Mine was a solid-state 30w Gibson, single 12" with reverb and tremolo. I bought it used in 1977 and sold it to my brother, who still has it.

My first amp as a kid was a Peavey Rage 158. It did the trick for metal tones. Can’t remember where it went. I quit playing for a while, so when I resumed I bought a SS Fender Tweed Bronco. I later gave that to my dad and I’m not sure what happened to it after he passed.
