I'd like to learn some 1911 gunsmithing and maybe build a custom gun for myself one day. There aren't many (any?) 1911 'smiths near me, that I've been able to find. This guy is a member of my gun club. I don't actually know him other than to exchange pleasantries when I see him at the range. If I were to have any work done to my 1911 it would be by him but he's probably way out of my price range. Take a look -- it's sweet gun pron.

Ooh yes it is:) He's a member of the American Pistolsmith's Guild, so he's definitely an artist. The requirements to get into that club are pretty strict.

I’m definitely on a 1911 kick. I’ve missed these creatures.

1911 is as much a BBQ gun in Texas as a six-gun, if not more!

My son has a Glock 17. VERY Fine gun. Had I have been able to shoot it before I bought some others it would definitely be in my stash! Sites on it are really nice for an old guy with withering eye sight.

I have a bright stainless Ruger Vaquero birdshead in .45 ACP with custom grips and Barranti holster, so I have that covered too for BBQ duty. The 1911s (a pair of Dan Wesson ECPs, one each in .45 and 9mm plus a Ruger Officer’s in 9mm) just carry so nice! 1911 is as much a BBQ gun in Texas as a six-gun, if not more! Very much agree, especially in good leather (Kramer in my case) and with attractive grips.

Me and my brother were really excited awhile back (Think I might have posted a thread) about getting a shot (thankee, thankee, I'll be here all week) at some cool collector guns (old and newer) out of an estate, but every last one them, including a Python, ended up being junk. One wasn't even the real deal. It was a cheesy knockoff. Oh well, win some, lose some. I did score a 1000 nato rounds for .40 cents a round a couple of weeks ago. I'll probably shoot at least a 100 of them this weekend. Me, my brother and my nephew are going to have a showdown at high noon Saturday with the Paper Target Gang! I just hope my brother doesn't bring his elephant cannon (300 Win Mag, I think that's what it is) with him. The last time I shot that thing, it gave me a pretty good shoulder bruise. lol

I have a Shield in .45, but a 1911 is on the wish list for sure.

That's like saying "You could just say no to the last donut in the box". I mean, we all know the donut is not the best thing to shove in your pie hole, but who can resist?

That's the worst recoil I've ever felt in my life, and I've shot a .50cal Barrett and a .458 magnum.

I have a bright stainless Ruger Vaquero birdshead in .45 ACP with custom grips and Barranti holster, so I have that covered too for BBQ duty. Nice. I don't think the birdshead or Bisley models were ever made available to we peasants in MA -- "Approved Roster" BS. I have a standard blued Vaquero in .45 Colt with custom grips. It's one of my favorite guns. .45 Colt is a very satisfying cartridge to shoot.

With a SA, I suppose you could always change the gripframe to birdshead or Bisley, along with the hammer if needed.

I didn’t realize that affected revolvers too. Yep -- in order to make it to the "Approved" roster, the manufacturer is required to submit each individual style of handgun for a super secret make believe safety evaluation. Since Talo exclusive Bisley and birdshead were released in such small numbers I assume Ruger didn't see the value in going through the process. FFLs are still not allowed to sell new production Colt SAAs or any of the clones like the Pietta or Uberti because the AG doesn't think MA gun owners are smart enough to handle an exposed firing pin.

Anyone here have AR-10 experience? My only .308 semi auto rifle is a FAL, not really designed to be scoped. I’m thinking about picking one up for my 60th birthday to use for banging the gongs out to 500 yards at the local rifle club. The SIG 716i appeals.

I broke down and ordered a fancy “dress” 1911 rig from Milt Sparks, a custom carved version of their Axiom OWB with magazine pouch and belt. I’ll be ready for next year’s BBQ season!
