Found a nice 2019 Explorer on Reverb, offer accepted. It’s antique natural, which is my my preferred color scheme.
I’m stoked!
Should be here by the end of the week.

Very good.
I miss my 1970s Hamer Standard sometimes.
Was my first guitar, I didn't know how good it was objectively, and didn't realize a headstock repair could be done.
Folly of youth!

Lefty Explorers don’t come up often. Even rarer are lefty Vs. I’m not bothered about having a V, though. I actually bought a Dean Michael Schenker V a few years ago and it floats that boat.
I still don’t understand why Gibson let him go to Dean. There must be a story there.

I have a Schecter V. It's purple, just like I like it.

Way cool!
If I could find another explorer with a chunky neck, I'd snap it up. I should not have let that one go all those years ago.

Schecter makes a nice guitar. That they do, especially at the midgrade price points and up. The pickups ar even decent. I was skeptical (rightfully) of the authentic "PAF-style" buckers in that model, but they are what they claim. Ironically it's the most classic jazzbox LP sounding of my Gibson-esque things!

Nice one. I know Allen Collins and Ricky Medlocke have made good use of the Explorer. My bucket list seems to getting smaller as time goes by . Give me a good strat , a nice LP, maybe a 335 and a couple nice Martins and I’m good.

I fell in love with the Explorer many years ago because of two very different players.

The closest I've ever come to the style was a Gibson RD Standard bass that I bought for $200 at a Detroit guitar show. Thing weighed a ton and I'd have to open the door in my closet "studio" to play it🤣
Enjoy the last of your Gibson bucket list. So you got an SG, 335, L5, Byrdland.....?

I have:
Les Paul 50s Trib - P90s SG 50s Trib - P90s ES-335 Satin Sunset Burst Les Paul Traditional
And now the Explorer.
I don’t have an SG with humbuckers. I have, on a couple of occasions. I don’t know that I’m motivated by them enough to buy another. Maybe if a crazy good deal pops up.
I’ve got no interest in the rest of those guitars.

I’ve never jived with P90s for some reason . Gibson humbuckers just are magic to my ears. I’m probably going to sell the SG as that thin neck at first feels great and then it I get cramps. Those thick neck Gibson’s seem to be what I get along best . That 50s LP is a joy to play and I spend most of my time with it.

I love P90s in a Leslie West sorta way. Here's a screen grab from the listing. He swapped the white PG for black. The white one comes with it, but I like the black more.

One of the best sounds I've had is an Explorer straight into my cranked old Princeton Reverb.

Yea, as far as Gibsons go I'm honestly set I think.
I've had an SG (and it was a decent one, but they just aren't "me") - the 335 is just too big and I hate F holes (and if I can get over the aversion, I have a decent Casino for feedback hell).
Give me a Les Paul, honestly. I have a Gibby no-F-hole 339 that does the trick but it was a compromise at the time - since LP Jr. DC's were a fortune and they hadn't issued a non-pricey example in ages, and the 339 was midnight blue to boot. It's a VERY nice guitar, but I ..pick up my Les Pauls.
And even though I occasionally still drool over a proper Custom, it's pure silliness - both mine have the pickusps I like that used in most of the modern Customs (490/490 combo) and are basically everything I would have custom ordered in a guitar as it is.
Only reason I have two is pure paranoia - I wanted backup for something I knew was going to be a rare bird once I fell in love.

Very nice ... On my list as well. I had this one on the string for a while a few years ago. $800.00 at GC with HS case. I put it on layaway. I'm not sure why I didn't feel like I had the cash available at the time. After a couple of weeks I just turned it back to them. I think they had a couple of buyers in-house for the guitar and they were pretty happy. I sure wish I had found a way to take it home. Explorer by Larry Madsen, on Flickr

That's the safety Explorer for kids. The adult model doesn't have rounded edges.

I have a couple Jacksons that are quite pointy. I already poked myself in the eye with one whilst running with it in my hands.

That vintage Explorer makes me question: why did they put the "custom made" plaques on things then?
They always looked CHEAP to me.
