I thought the chrome pickguard screws had a bit of a rivoted look so I replaced them with black screws. It sounds and plays so much better now😄

I was going to suggest that. These days I find myself using black pg screws quite a bit.
Case in point:

I’m taking my next step towards making my own body. I had my body guy make me a routed blank. It is routed as a H/H Tele.

My latest foolishness is adding a finish to the rosewood fretboard on my greenburst "Auroracaster" Strat. I always liked the look of the shine on the Bubinga fretboards of Rics. Seeing some examples on the internutz I'm following this protocol:
-clean fretboard with naphtha
-apply very light coat of truoil using gun cleaning swatches
-3 coats per day for 3 days
-start each day with a light scrub from a grey scotchbrite pad before applying next coats
-let cure about a week
-buff out with some denim
-apply some renaissance wax
I'm doing this on a fat Allparts neck that is really nice but not particularly expensive. If I get a failing grade on this project there is always the custom Warmoth neck with block inlays I envisioned for this guitar. 😎

... on my road to making my own bodies. I asked my body supplier to route me a blank.
This is how it's going. I have stain on the body, too, but no pics of that yet.

Here it is today. The lower horn is a bit smaller than previsouly depicted. I call this "Pearl Sunrise Burst." It's still taking clear.

That's looking really good leftee. Love the burst.👍
I couldn't resist a roasted flame maple Allparts Tele neck that seems to only be offered by Stratosphere. 10" radius, "large" frets and a thin poly finish. I've fallen out of love with the baseball bat one on my Thinline and figure I'll give this a shot. Should be here in about 5 days.
On a side note the last few times I've made musicial purchases bad events immediately followed; bad news, unexpected financial expenditures, etc. I'm not a subscriber to "the universe is punishing me" but took note of it to the point that I was hesitant to pull the trigger. Holy cow, the events that followed this purchase were enough to make me think "no more". Immediately I had to hire a plumber to snake out the kitchen sink, both my wife and I having skin cancers, worrisome news from my brother about his liver cancer, my other brother and his wife got into a car wreck (they're ok but their suburban was totaled) and yesterday our 8 year old grandson was hospitalized with myositis. Superstition aside it all makes me wonder when I'll have the time and wits to tinker with the frivolous things in life.

Thanks! I really dig these colors. I’m going to do more of them.
Warmoth is making me a neck for this. It’s different.
I predict that your purchase will not be accompanied by drama.
And those numbers in your head are the winning powerball combination.

My new car battery cost about as much as my new neck.
The universe continues to mock me. 🤣

“Like”
I wish they did more of this stuff lefty. And the Bubinga necks too.

Oh wait… the Bubinga necks are WD.

Yeah, it is weird that Allparts doesn't seem to offer lefties.
I kinda expected the "thin poly" finish to be a bit glossier. The pics are reflecting some outdoor and indoor lighting, it's a bit raw looking in actuality. I wonder how this finish would take some some wipe on poly, Tru Oil, shellac or even Watco clear lacquer.

I've bought lefty Allparts necks in the past. They are few and far-between.
If you lightly sanded it, laid down some Shellac, then lacquer, you should be groovy. I've done that on necks that are as you describe.
A light sanding and some wipe-on poly would be OK too. Don't know about anything else.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to first try a higher grade micromesh on the heel to see if the existing finish has some shine to give.

Finished for now. I decided to leave the finish alone because I really enjoy the feel of this neck. Someday maybe I'll lacquer the headstock, but the idea of futzing with lacquer between frets is not something I care to deal with ever again.

Another thing I really like about this neck are the frets. Advertised as "tall" they're spec'd as .079 x .051 which doesn't seem to correspond to any standard wire size I can think of but just work for me. Not as "bumpy" as 6105 wire and easy to crown after leveling.

So now I'm not sure I'm in love with the existing vintage pearl pickguard. I copied and pasted 2 ideas from Warmoth. A regular Tort PG and an "anaconda", which I find oddly attractive. Thoughts?

I like the anaconda on that guitar… a lot!
Meanwhile, I have all the parts, except the neck, for this creature I’m building. The Lacquer is curing on the body. I expect (based on recent experience) that I’ll have the neck around the end of the month. 🤞

I'm now pondering a Thinline Esquire build. No neck pickup, no switch, just a volume and tone and Barden/Barden like bridge pickup. 🤔
I don't think I'd be brave enough to omit the tone control. A full thinline pickguard without a neck pickup might look a bit odd though.

So here she is... Sugar Pine body, Purpleheart neck with Canary fretboard.
SD Psyclone and Vintage Stack.
The finish has some sink in the clear, but since this is a prototype I didn't want to spend a lot of time on it - so it is what it is. I also cut the treble bout a bit too close to the neck pocket. The neck plate extends over the edge @1/16". I'll make the adjustment on the template.

I like it. I've not seen figuring like that on canary, it works well with the body.

Thanks! I was pleasantly surprised when I first saw the neck. Yes, it's like Warmoth knew what I really wanted. I had some "interesting" canary 1/8" stock, so I cut the truss rod cover just to carry the Canary to the headstock.
Sadly, I haven't plugged her in yet. I have checked for neck-dive and the guitar hangs fairly neutral. It might be a *tad* balanced towards the neck, though.
It weighs 7lbs. 3oz.

Very Nice Leftee.
I like the unique body shape and the raw, sort of unconventional appearance. Even with its' a fairly common configuration, it is uncommon.
The wood and color combos all work well together.
I bet it plays nice too.

Thanks Larry!
This sort of finish sells pretty well. Just not to folks in our age bracket. 😂
Having said that, I really like these sorts of finishes a lot.

I spent some time, last night, tweaking the setup. This plays very nice! Still haven't plugged it in. 🤣😳
I also ordered smaller tuner buttons. Same shape, just the smaller size. I don't like the large ones on this headstock.
