My grandson, 8, has been taking lessons for 3 years. He’s been taking piano lessons for 5 years.
I’ll be seeing him in August and I’m giving him my Guild M240E a/e. He has a non electric now so his parents can buy him an amp.
A couple of months ago his grandfather on the other side died. His grandmother asked him to play “Jesus Loves Me” at the funeral. He did, and the church pastor asked him to play it again while everyone sang the song. His mom, my daughter, sent me the recording. It sounded great.
So I’d like some ideas for a good sounding amp in the $200 range. They don’t make a lot of money so if they can’t buy it…like for Christmas, I’ll buy it. They live in Ft. Collins, CO, I live in Missouri. Thanks!

If you find stuff used, the old Marshall acoustic amps are surprisingly good, and last I checked, not very expensive.

I had a thread here a few months ago and Fishman was suggested. For once I heeded the advice. A Loudbox mini. 60 watts. Compact and transportable. My threadin UK pounds it’s between 200 & 300. Used, it’s in the ballpark. I love the amp. Vocal channel has reverb, guitar has reverb and chorus. It does sound good with Breedlove, Yamaha, and Fender electros. A Seymour Duncan Woody sounds good with my non-electros. Electro mandolins, violins, bouzoukis and ukes sound acceptable too. With the right mic, even banjos are pleasant. I’ve used it loads in smaller spaces. Barry likes it too😀 Edited to add that I have no experience of the Fender offerings.

If I needed an acoustic amp (not likely, considering my acoustic is a.... - I'd just use my Bose S1 Pro portable PA thing. It's stupid loud, does the job, instrument and mic inputs, and sounds good. And wouldn't cost me a (additional) dime. I mostly end up using it as a monitor/PA in the studio room for music piped in over bluetooth or as a keyboard amp though.

Orange and Vox make little practice amps that are pretty good fir acoustic at around 100 usd. Perfect for young beginners. Recently I got a Positive Grid Spark Mini that was around 250 usd. I took it to a neighbor island (Molokai) the other week for an acoustic jam and it was perfect. To change settings though, a smart phone is needed. Weighs in about 5 lbs. It’ll play streamed songs to practice to through the app. Probably something for an older player though.

Rob & Mark, those are both good ideas (positive grid) but probably he’s too young. LTB, I will watch the fender video in a little while…just got up. thanks again.
