Very nice, Laker, congrats!
My C5 was the 2000 version of that color, Magnetic Red. Gorgeous paint, actually perhaps closer to the color of the pickup behind your car.
It was a head-turner, for sure.

We had a Mag Red II ‘01 for a few years until trading it for a Crystal Red ‘08. Red seems to be a color that we love with multiple cars and motorcycles always in one hue or another of RED.

A new Corvette is possibly back on the menu for me. I’m building a house in Central Texas, and my Miata will be a little small down there plus my shifting ankle has been getting worse. You know, what’s really cool about Texas is you can run 65 mph on all those little secondary back roads. My son lives in that state and I was surprised when we’re flying down those country roads and he tells me it is legal! He has a 383 stroked Corvette and isn’t afraid to put his foot in it. We’re a long time Corvette family.

I feel like a proud papa. The new baby is in the garage and I gotta tell you this is an unbelievable automobile. It’s more like sitting in the seat of a fighter jet than a car when comparing it to the ‘62 Vette I once owned. I can’t wait for the snow to be gone!

Thanks guys! I sat in the car today and tried to just page through the preferences I can program in this car and it is mind boggling how many parameters I have control over. Maybe I should have purchased a restomod mod ‘62 where all I needed to know is it is a 6 speed vs a 4 speed. This is going to be fun!

My banker daughter doesn’t understand us Vette lovers. She just recently got her Porsche 911 Carrera 4S. It’s a really nice ride and I’m a big Porsche fan, but I’ve wanted a Vette since I was a kid. Btw, I fat fingered my earlier post. I have a ‘22 on order, not ‘23. Don’t quote me, but I don’t think the ‘23s are available to order until April. Say, maybe my daughter will be a sport and buy the old man a Z06! Lol

How’s it getting in and out? Congrats! I have the GT2 seats in the car and there is no more issue getting in or out with the seat retracted to the exit position than there is in our GMC Terrain. I had planned on purchasing the competition seats but after seeing people make comments about “climbing over the lower side bolsters” I passed on that option.

Now that I’m here in central TX I’ve been seeing more C8s. The temptation is strong… but I really need to sit in one first to see if I fit ok. Do they hold corporate sponsored events? I’m near Circuit of the Americas, I’ll start watching their calendar.

I’m near Circuit of the Americas, I’ll start watching their calendar. I’m 6’2” (and probably shrinking with age) and 260 lbs and find the C8 GT2 seats very comfortable. I was originally going to configure the car with the competition seats but then heard people complain about the high side bolsters on those seats and how hard it was to climb over them to get in the car. I’ll be 76 yo in a few weeks and don’t need any more challenges thrown at me that I have control of so I went with the GT2. If you can, drive the car…it’ll blow you away. This is like no Corvette I’ve owned, and covers multiple generations beginning with a C1 ‘62 when I just turned 18. The last automatic tranny Vette I owned was a ‘79 so it has been a bit of training to stop looking for a clutch.

No manual is a non-starter for me. I'll stick with my Z3 as a fun car.

No manual is a non-starter for me. I'll stick with my Z3 as a fun car. Since buying my first Corvette in early 1965 I have been a firm believer in having a manual transmission in my Vettes, but it is pretty cool to not have to heel/toe the brake and gas pedal when sitting on an incline at a stoplight in heavy traffic.

With my wonky left ankle (from a bad injury) the Miata’s very light clutch is all I can deal with on a regular basis, and sometimes not even that. I would welcome a good automatic at this point.

I've never felt the need to heal/toe for taking off on a hill unless I'm in a very unfamiliar car. I love the process of heal/toe-ing to blip the throttle and downshift while braking for a corner. That's half the fun of driving a sports car IMO. A lot of people say "yeah, but the new cars with dual clutch and paddles perform really well" but it' s just not the same.

My C8 Vette is an 8 speed automatic that, so far, works pretty smooth. It sometimes seems to have a little lag when I take the foot off the brake to step on the gas. The car seems to give a little jerk when the transmission seems to engage. To me, it’s still a hell of a lot easier than playing clutch/gas pedal tag with my manual Corvettes over the years.
I purchased an XT5 Cadillac that (I think) has this same paddle-shift transmission as the Corvette. The Cadillac has this gas-saving thing that shuts the engine off at stop signs and it gives a jerk when you take your foot off the brake (the engine restarts) and you step on the gas. I shut that option off whenever I drive the Cadillac and wonder if the Corvette suffers from that same programming.

Whenever I see a Corvette out on the roads, it is usually doing 10 mph below the speed limit with the blinker on.
How will I be able to tell if it is one of you guys in it?

I really hate auto stop - I have a widget in my Ridgeline that automatically defeats it. I was in Cleveland at a red light left turn, and almost ended up with a ricer in my back end when I had that slight hesitation between getting off the brake and the truck responding. Yes, it would have been his fault but I feel it’s unsafe.

Really good move having the trim pieces finished in the body color. This totally unifies the lines of the car and completely transforms the appearance. IMO the standard black trim chops up the body lines and ruins the flow. A friend of mine did this with a metallic blue one he ordered and I was blown away with the effect. It is that significant. There is a lot going on with the body lines and accenting them is detrimental to what the car should look like. Good for you.

Yes, it would have been his fault but I feel it’s unsafe. Hmmm.....my new F-50 has auto stop/start. I don't mind it and haven't disabled it yet. It seems to start quick enough that there's virtually no hesitation that I can detect. I did figure out that I can wiggle the steering wheel to start the engine if necessary. I have used that a couple times when I wanted to be extra sure that I would be ready to go (left turn onto a busy street, for example).

I chose the convertible because of the ease to drop the top. Our ‘01 and ‘08 Vettes were both coupes with the two-top panel option. I could change the roof panel by myself but if my wife wanted to pull the roof panel and I wasn’t around, she couldn’t do it by herself. With the ‘13 we went with a 3lt convertible that had the power top option so for her, it was unlatch the top and press the button the put the top down. It is nice that she can enjoy this car if I’m not there to assist. If you feel you have to be able to see that mid engine then you’ll want the coupe as the convertible has a fixed cover/heat shield that protects the top when it is in the retracted position over the engine.

It would definitely be a convertible, no contest.
