"Still Game" on NetFlix. Scottish geezer humor. I'd watched all of it that was available some while ago, but just noticed a new season is available. We find it hilarious. The Scottish accents are heavy and the dialog is loaded with colloquialisms, but we fell into the rhythm of it after the first couple episodes. www.imdb.com/title/tt0281491/

Mentioned before but worth noting that Road To Perdition is now available to stream on Amazon Prime. I had not seen it many years. Forgot how close to perfect a movie it is. Bittersweet crime story of a boy who inadvertently witnesses a murder, forcing his father (Hanks) to take action to protect him. Brilliant performances by the entire cast including Tom Hanks, Paul Newman (his last movie role), Daniel Craig, and Jude Law. Absolutely sparkling orchestral score by Thomas Newman.
If you have not seen it or if it's been a long time since, the movie holds up just fine.

We watched “The Dig” on Netflix last night. Plot: On the eve of World War II, a British widow hires a self-taught archaeologist to dig up mysterious formations on her land, leading to a staggering find. It stars Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan. I’ll give it 4/5 ⭐️.

"Act of Valor" on NetFlix. Graphic violence, so probably not for the kiddies. Navy Seals vs. a Chechen/Filipino Islamist/terrorist/Mexican drug cartel collaboration. www.imdb.com/title/tt1591479/

I got about 40 min into it, super bad acting and it jumped around too much.
YMMV

Another one that holds up extremely well. Currently on Amazon Prime (US)
Excellent cast:
Harrison Ford Brad Pitt Margret Colin Ruben Blades Treat Williams
It's top a level suspense drama. Hadn't watched it in years and it's still as good as any current film.

"Homefront" (2013) on NetFlix Heavy violence, bad language, kickass/protective dad, vicious tweaker thugs, threatened daughter, Deep South location. Nothing deep, but I thought it was worth a watch. www.imdb.com/title/tt2312718/

Although when I was growing up I thought they were full of it. Anyway, worth watching. We just watched it last night. When I was about 11 years old, I thought I wanted to be an archaeologist, so I've been aware of the Sutton-Hoo Burial Mound since then, but had never heard that back story. Pretty cool, even without martial arts, car chases and automatic weapons. Kind of reminded me of where I used to work, what with all the upper-echelon jerks barging into a fait accompli and trying to take all the credit for other peoples' preceding hard work and initiative.

I'll start with a disclaimer. If you don't like dark humor and dark themes a la Jim Jarmusch, Quentin Tarantino, etc., scroll on by.
This is all shot in black and white. A young priest is asked to help interrogate a vampire that is in custody at a police station. As you might expect, things don't exactly go as planned. Interesting sequences in stop motion animation give this thing a surreal spin and the jazzy saxophone score matches the mood. The low IMDB rating is because, as I said, it's not for everyone.
(If you do like this one, look for the very trippy "A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night", also in stark beautiful black and white. A very far out and hard to find film that is set in Iran but was shot in California! It's not on Amazon but if you see it available somewhere, watch it!)

I watched a limited series called "Unorthodox" on Netflix. A young bride from a NY Hasidic Jewish community defects to Berlin. I thought I was gonna hate it but found it well acted and engaging.

These are both on Amazon: "The Silencing" If you have a daughter(s) that you've raised through puberty and have ever felt the "protective dad mode" hackles rise up on the back of your neck, you should be able to relate to this one. A couple of things it has going for it: -most all the characters are flawed in some way -the "good guy" isn't an invincible superman
You may recognize Nikolaj Coster-Waldau: he played "Jaime Lannister" in "Game of Thrones" and Zahn McClarnon, who played "Officer Mathias" in "Longmire"..
www.imdb.com/title/tt7149730/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1_________________ "Trapper Jake" This one is a documentary about an old, Wyoming fur trapper. If you don't hunt or trap and have never worked in a slaughter house or as a butcher, there are scenes in this one that you will probably find disturbing. Before you cluck your tongue and turn away because of that, keep in mind that, unless you're a vegetarian, somebody else is doing this kind of unpleasant stuff for you before the meat gets to the little, plastic-wrapped tray with stickers on it in the supermarket cooler.
The guy is a real character and, to a large extent, one of the last of a dying breed from a bygone era.

We watched "I Care a Lot" (2020 Film, Netflix) a couple of nights ago. It was Mrs Ayns' choice and I thought I was going to hate it. Turned out to be a "black comedy/ thriller ", and I liked it a lot, although the anti-heroines were so cartoonishly evil, it was a bit off-putting at times.

We got pulled into this on Netflix as it was a thriller/mystery, but there was one plot element that bugged me. However, it does have a very, very effective twist at the end. BTW the character "Adele" is Bono's daughter, but don't hold that against her.
