I didn't watch it, but here's the scoop

I'm not interested in events where rich people celebrate themselves but did catch the video. At first thought it might have been staged, but naw, that was real. A new level of comedic cancelation. Looks like Don Rickles died right on time.

Will Smith should have borrowed from Blazing Saddles, standing before Chris Rock and saying, "excuse me while I whip this out!"

I have to wonder what the little woman's reaction was.

Allegedly he was laughing at the offending joke until the wife gave him the stink-eye.
Or so the innernets sez.

Of course it was staged.
Will Smith is a professional actor.

The best part to me is that he did what he did, and then had to go up and accept the award for Best Actor. And everyone gave him a standing ovation like nothing had even happened lol.

I’d have been impressed if it had been The Rock.
Which is how I originally read the story.

If Will Smith slapped The Rock, would he even feel it??

I don't watch any industries "Give each other awards" shows (tv, movies, various music genres, etc.). I wouldn't expect them to watch a show handing out awards for outstanding software engineering either.

Not staged. Yeah he was laughing initially, then saw his wife's reaction and felt the need to defend her. But when he returned to his seat and started throwing F bombs to Chris Rock it was very real. they don't stage F bombs @ the Academy.

My wife thinks it was staged because Chris Rock didn't fall down, but something tells me he can take a punch.

I'm having a hard time believing this is anything but a stunt.
Chris Rock's joke wasn't funny -- he doesn't write jokes that aren't funny.
If Jada were pissed off by the joke she wouldn't need Will to give Chris a slap -- she would have done it herself.
Will Smith gets an Oscar? C'mon man. His crocodile teary acceptance speech was the best performance he's ever delivered -- and it sucked.

I'm having a hard time believing this is anything but a stunt. It's just like Janet's wardrobe malfunction. Everyone knows that one was spontaneous. *Eye roll*

My wife tells me Ms Smith has a disease that caused her hair to fall out. So a GI Jane joke seems kinda crappy. If that is the case...good on ya Will.

But again, if that hurt his butt he could've just yelled "not cool, man, not cool". Or assaulted him afterward. March up on stage? Nah, not cool. Comedy is already in hospice, lets further destroy the fringe areas. As I said before, Don Rickles.
If Rock used this same joke about someone else maybe less Hollywood, would have the Smiths chuckled? Of course.

Cage match: "The Oscargon".

Apparently there was bad blood brewing for some time. Rock had poked them in another similar setting that really annoyed them. And one of the hosts lqst night started off the show w a few jabs about their open relationship. All that and him being up for best actor probably had him ready to pop, and so he did. But yeah, his acceptance speech was Oscar worthy.
I wanted him to win because I met him when he flew our band to Miami for his late father's birthday and he was very cool.

Are The Rock, Chris Rock, Rocky and Rock Hudson related? Adrian should stand in the middle of a room and whistle, see which one slaps her.
